The 0207 Def Jam boss shares the five songs that have shaped his life and career

‘I’m Alec. People call me “twin” because I share my face. I’m a music lover, and have been lucky and blessed enough to have been working in music since coming out of my teens. I’ve worked in radio, music publishing, and at record labels. I currently run a label called 0207 Def Jam with my twin brother.’

Below, Boateng shares five songs that have shaped his life

Lionel Richie – ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’
‘Anything 1980s or 1990s soul reminds me of my childhood at home, as this was always playing. MJ, Lionel Richie and Steve Wonder brought me up. And Lionel had the same haircut as my mum then.’

Pay As U Go – ‘Know We’
‘One of the early grime records from boys in my area. Changed the game for me.’

SLK – ‘Hype Hype’
‘First record I ever signed.’

Stormzy – ‘Vossi Bop’
‘A superstar who I watched closely become a superstar, being a superstar.’

Stevie Wonder – anything from him
‘My favourite artist ever. He’s the GOAT, the best, the blueprint, etc.’
