The Zodiac Dispatch: 2022, the year ahead

2022 The Year Ahead Zodiac Dispatch

In this month’s column, astrologer and member Clarisse Monahan looks to the major astrological event of 2022: Jupiter’s return to Pisces

By Clarisse Monahan

We all know a friend who has weathered a rough professional or emotional patch only to emerge from it more robust and positive. Something similar is happening with generous Jupiter, our most benefic cosmic friend. Stuck in conservative Capricorn (2020) and chilly Aquarius (2021), the luck giver has been a bit downtrodden the past couple of years, unable to express itself in all its larger-than-life glory. But on December 28 2021, Jupiter returned home to its beachfront property in compassionate Pisces, a sign it loves and rules. We will all benefit handsomely from this transit, which will last until May 10 and start up again in late October 2022. How so?

In its positive valences, Jupiter is all about fortune, expansion, prosperity, and bounty. Mythologically, Jupiter connects to Zeus, the head honcho of the Greek gods, known for granting unexpected boons and largesse to sufficiently loyal mortals. Jupiter is also associated with learning, knowledge, philosophy, and education. In the Vedic astrological tradition of India, the sign is called Guru, meaning teacher.

Over the past two years, these positive aspects of our friend Jupiter have been stymied by inauspicious placements. Tides are changing, though, as Jupiter entered into oceanic Pisces at the end of December. Pisces is about empathy, compassion, visionary dreaminess, and emotional sensitivity. It is a changeable water sign – always flowing, merging, and submerging. It does not like boundaries and loathes social distance. It’s the sign of cosmic feelings and kindness.

Jupiter transiting into the Fishes is perhaps the biggest astrological move of 2022. It’s a homecoming of sorts, since Jupiter rules Pisces and hasn’t been there for an extended period for 12 years. Because one of Jupiter’s functions is to enlarge whatever it contacts, all of this empathetic Pisces energy should get expanded over the next few months. If you were feeling shut out or shut off from others, expect Jupiter’s placement in Pisces to increase a sense of emotional connection. While last year felt like being snubbed at a cocktail party, Jupiter in Pisces will be more like a cosmic group hug.

After the tough transits of the past two years, 2022 looks to begin auspiciously (thank goodness). The Zodiac Dispatch wishes you a happy Jupiter transit and new year.
