Ganni has long been a byword for Scandi cool – just ask the brand’s army of cult followers, otherwise known as #GanniGirls. Founded by husband and wife duo Nicolaj and Ditte Reffstrup, the Copenhagen-born label became renowned for spearheading the sustainable fashion revolution, while introducing the world to a more playful take on Scandinavian aesthetics.
Building a community rather than just a brand, the Reffstrups have always seen the value in making space for new generations to continue the legacy of Danish fashion and culture, championing other local creatives, from designers to DJs. Most recently, Nicolaj – who stepped down as CEO in 2018 to focus on responsibility within the company – joined the Soho Mentorship programme, signing up to mentor young fashion designer Nana-Adwoa Osei. But she’s not the only emerging talent he’s backing.
Here, the entrepreneur selects five other Danish creatives to keep your eye on – from the founders of skincare brand AASAI to a Ganni PR-turned-artist.
‘Laura used to work on the Ganni communications and PR team. She went on to study art and is such a talented weaver whose expression is totally her own. It’s full of intricate details and patterns, and I love how colourful her work is.’
‘Our receptionist extraordinaire, Linus, also happens to be a super-talented sculptor. I love how inspired he is by nature and the human form, which really shines through in his silhouettes.’
‘I am always inspired by music, so I get really excited when there’s a new DJ who can really get me dancing. Nora [Benjnouh] is without a doubt that person, she can totally control the floor.’
‘I love Sophia’s quirky knitwear universe that manages to be cute and melancholic at the same time. It’s so unexpected, but she takes full command of her craft and it just works.’
‘There’s so much soul and passion behind skincare and I love that it’s a family-driven project; I can really relate to that. You can just tell that it comes from the heart and their products are amazing.’
