At Soho House, we pride ourselves on giving our members unexpected moments they'll never forget. And for the lucky few that rode with us on the Belmond British Pullman train down to Brighton in the UK last weekend, memories were certainly made. Drag Race UK alumni Kitty Scott-Claus, Cheryl Hole and Vanity Milan sashayed down the train’s aisles to check guests’ tickets (railcards too…). Francis Bourgeois – Britain’s most beloved trainspotter – was also on board inspecting the fine interiors.
For those not in the know, British Pullman’s steam-hauled journeys are a luxurious ode to the Golden Age of Rail. On board, there was 1920s-infused glamour, alongside antique-style marquetry, vintage lighting, and heritage upholstery. For Soho House members travelling to Brighton for Pride, the journey was a special – and fittingly camp – start to the day’s non-stop celebrations.
During the journey, passengers enjoyed a three-course brunch with copious amounts of Bellinis and rosé, and entertainment by drag queens-turned-ticket inspectors. After two hours of country views and overflowing glasses, the train pulled into Brighton train station where the real fun began. Guests were escorted to Brighton Beach House and welcomed with a Pride-inspired buffet, courtesy of Gem’s Wholesome Kitchen.
All day long, the Terrace hosted performances from some of the UK’s most talented queer entertainers, including L.Devine, Hot Chip’s lead vocalist Alexis Taylor, and the nation’s sweetheart, Bimini, alongside the House of Trash.
