On Thursday 10th March, Jewellery designer Stephen Webster and his wife invited a group of their friends down to Babington House to watch a 20 minute film. When all is Gold, is the title of the 20min film, created by Stephen with the NGO Solidaridad. about the world’s first Fair Trade gold mine.

In January 2011 Stephen travelled to Peru to experience firsthand the difference that Fairtrade certification will make to small scale and artisanal mining communities, as well as to trace the origin of this precious metal.

Sunday Best took over the House for a love-in that blew our minds. Featuring live performances from The Correspondents, David E Sugar and Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer. With Rob Da Bank, Frank Tope and Russ Cuban on the decks.

On the 7th February Nigella Lawson hosted an event at Babington for 180 guests.

The evening was in aid of Positive Action on Cancer, a local cancer counselling charity and there was such demand for the event, that we erected a marquee to accommodate more people and raise more money for the charity.

Nigella chose a menu, which was prepared by Babington’s head chef Ronnie and his team. The meal included an iceberg lettuce salad and pork knuckles (not together).

Nigella was interviewed by Kirsty between the starters and main course and then there was a Q & A session between main course and desert (yummy and very seasonal rhubarb crumble and custard). Topics included how aggressive to get with your chicken and Nigella’s desert island dishes, of which there were a fair few.

One of the highlights of the evening was the incredibly generous surprise donation of a house in the Bahamas, for up to 4 couples for 10 days. This created a buzz of excitement throughout the marquee and was auctioned off by Kirsty, who ensured that as much money as could be raised, was raised.
